“Two Iberias - Two Gates of Europe” - International Conference at TSU

Georgian, German, Italian, Spanish and British scientists are participating in the 1st International Conference “Two Iberias - Two Gates of Europe,” which was opened at Tbilisi State University. The conference is dedicated to the study of the ancient cultures of Caucasian Iberia and Spanish Iberia and their reception, as well as to the research of parallels and possible contacts between these two cultures. The conference was organized by three universities - Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University, Complutense University of Madrid and Caucasus University.

 

Erekle Astakhishvili, Deputy Rector of TSU, Nana Gaprindashvili, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities of TSU, Marcos Granados Gómez, Charge' d'Affaires of the Spanish Embassy in Georgia, representatives of the hosting universities, Georgian and foreign scientists, professors and students participated in the opening of the event.

 

“The concept of the conference, which is based on the study of the ancient cultures of Caucasian Iberia and the Iberian Peninsula, is very interesting. I believe that this event will further deepen the relations between our countries and universities,” said Deputy Rector Erekle Astakhishvili. According to him, speakers from Germany, Italy and Great Britain will take part in the work of the conference along with Georgian and Spanish scientists.

 

Marcos Granados Gómez, Charge' d'Affaires of the Spanish Embassy in Georgia, thanked the universities that organized the conference and said that despite the territorial distance, the two countries are connected by cultural proximity. He expressed hope that the conclusions presented at the conference would provide an opportunity to establish closer ties between two Iberian realities.

 

 Within the framework of the three-day conference, the Section will work in various directions, a concert of Georgian and Spanish folk music and dance, a tasting of Georgian and Spanish wines, and a round table of translators are planned.
